At the Animal Healing Center in Yardley, Pennsylvania, Dr. Khalsa assisted in offering guidance and experience to newly graduated veterinarians from the International Veterinary Acupuncture Course.
Acupuncture points lie along meridians; a series of interconnecting channels through which the body's flow of energy is conducted. The flow and balance of the energy that runs the body or Qi {(pronounced Chi), as it is referred to in Chinese medicine, is directly influenced by the positioning of the needles so as to promote deep healing.
The practice of acupuncture is based on both natural and scientific aspects of healing. The principles of Chinese medicine, for instance, which were published in the period from 400-200 B.C., included a discussion of how the heart controlled blood flow through the body; something accepted by Western medicine when William Harvey made the same "discovery" 2,000 years later !
Veterinary acupuncture is a healing science that deals with the individual animal as a living energetic being, rather than simply as a catalog of signs and symptoms.
