Holiday Travel

Our pets may pine for us, missing us when we are away on a holiday vacation. For hundreds of years, homeopaths have been prescribing the remedy IGNATIA for people who are lonely because they are missing a loved one. When dogs or cats are placed in a kennel they may grieve for their ‘people’ and leaving some of the remedy Ignatia 30x at the kennel, asking them to place a few granules in their fresh water bowl every day will help them to feel better.

You may also want to leave some familiar toys and blankets that smell like the family. You can even leave a bag of towels and toys so new ‘smelly’ ones, can replace dirty toys the kennel may have to remove and wash.

The Renaissance of Herbs

In the 16th century, a man named Doctor Jacobus Theodorus Tabernaemontanus wrote a book that was as long as his name (ha ha) which was considered by experts to be the most comprehensive and detailed text on classical western medicine. His book discusses the use of foxglove( digitalis) for heart conditions, poppies( morphine) for pain control and even penicillin. Penicillin was recognized for its actions as early as the eighth century! He describes St. Mary’s Thistle (Milk Thistle) as one of the most important herbs to detoxify and clean the liver. He also describes another use for this herb; cleaning gravel and stones from the urinary system!

Calcium that works

Calcium is not absorbed at all from bone meal and oyster shells (the commonly used forms in many pet vitamins) Green leafy vegetables like kale. Broccoli and parsley supply water- soluble calcium that is very easy to be assimilated and used by the body. Good healthy calcium that a body can use along with healthy Vitamin D3 creates an proper balance of minerals in the body, creating strong healthy bones and avoiding arthritis and stone formation.

The Sunshine Vitamin

Our bodies and our pet’s bodies produce vitamin D3 in the body as a result of exposure to sunshine. Vitamin D is also a hormone and is responsible for calcium and mineral absorption, immune function and neurological function. New research has found that humans are grossly deficient in this important vitamin. Scientific studies have also correlated the increased exposure to sunlight with the fact that people contract less flu and colds in the summertime. Perhaps lack of Vitamin D3 is also responsible for those winter doldrums. Milk is fortified with D2, not D3- the real thing. Dogs and cats get even less sun that humans do so they need a good supplement with a good dose of Vitamin D3 in it. Check out Deserving Pets Vital Vitamins on this site!

Healthy Bath Rinse

  • 2 tablespoons of chopped Rosemary Leaves
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped Lavender Leaves
  • 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar

Place ingredients in glass or enamel pot and add 6 cups of water. Bring to a boil and after a brisk boil is achieved, remove from heat. After the mixture sits and cools for a few hours, strain and store. Use as a rinse after a shampoo.

Lavender helps to cut down on oil buildup on a dogs skin, helping to keep the 'doggy odor' down.
